It’s much more difficult to know when your animal is in distress, because they simply cannot talk to you. Here are some of the common signs you can watch for:
- Difficulty giving birth
- Neonatal issues, such as dehydration or hypothermia
- Possible poisoning (potentially caused by drinking antifreeze or ingesting rat poison or other toxic substances)
- Allergic reactions or uncontrollable itching
- Trouble breathing or severe coughing
- Discolored or pale gums and tongue
- Severe bleeding
- Lameness which comes on suddenly
- Signs of discomfort
- Lacerations
- Ingesting a foreign object
- Eye trauma or blindness that comes on quickly
- Weakness of limbs or an inability to move
- Severe vomiting, diarrhea or dry heaving
- Sudden collapse
- Erratic behavior
- Diabetic emergencies
